My Morning Jacket - “Honest Man”

I’ve run out of adjectives to describe these guys and their live shows. Just see ‘em.

Their countdown to “Circuital”, the band’s sixth studio album, is in full swing through their website, Twitter, and the rest of the web. http://www.mymorningjacket.com/T5/

Velvet Underground “Rock and Roll”

She keeps on listenin’ to that fine fine music

When you don’t feel it, it shows, they tear out your soul. But when you believe, they call it rock and roll

I promise I didn't read this article before picking my brackets.

I love my Carolina Tar Heels, but I do think that youth and carelessness will catch up with them at some point, likely against another big-bodied team like Ohio State. So my Final Four are: Ohio State, Texas, Kansas, and Pitt, with Texas taking it all.

Yea, it’s a long shot, but why not? My disdain for the Duke Blue Devils made it hard for me to pick them over the Horns… obviously Texas’ road to the Final Four won’t get any easier after that, but that potential Sweet Sixteen matchup should be a make or break for my bracket.

Robbie Robertson chooses Dawes for his traveling band

So, the primary songwriter/guitarist from one of my favorite bands of all time employs one of my favorite current bands to back him on his upcoming tour? Solid.

One of the many reasons I love Dawes is because their sound often reminds me of the Band, so this seems like a natural, albeit unexpected, occurrence.

The weather’s supposed to hit 70 by the end of this week, meaning Spring and hiking season is fast approaching. While the next several weeks of gradually warming temperatures mean muddy trails and bare foliage, the peak hiking months of May and June ain’t that far away. This shot is from the top of Wittenberg Mountain, a 3780’ peak in the Burroughs Range of the Catskill Mountains. Ashokan Reservoir, the deepest of all New York City watersheds, is in the distance. Three of us did this hike last spring over three of the Catskills’ highest peaks, including its tallest, Slide Mountain. It was a grinder of a hike, but the views, as evidenced here, were well worth it. I plan to share some of my favorite hike logs on here as the season progresses.
Not in Picture: Obnoxious man yelling on his cell phone, dialing everyone in his phone book to tell them about the hike he just did.

Now I’m Ready to Start..

A good two years in the making, and finally, a blog up and running. I’ve given some thought to what theme or focus I wanted to give this blog, some kind of niche I might try to fit it into… but ultimately, I chose to keep the options open. Trying to narrow down which of my interests to focus the blog on just seemed too constraining. So for now, it’s all ad hoc. A little music, a recipe, a photo or two, some more music. Whatever’s on my mind now.
