The weather’s supposed to hit 70 by the end of this week, meaning Spring and hiking season is fast approaching. While the next several weeks of gradually warming temperatures mean muddy trails and bare foliage, the peak hiking months of May and June ain’t that far away. This shot is from the top of Wittenberg Mountain, a 3780’ peak in the Burroughs Range of the Catskill Mountains. Ashokan Reservoir, the deepest of all New York City watersheds, is in the distance. Three of us did this hike last spring over three of the Catskills’ highest peaks, including its tallest, Slide Mountain. It was a grinder of a hike, but the views, as evidenced here, were well worth it. I plan to share some of my favorite hike logs on here as the season progresses.
